Chapter 942: Ancient Elf History
Chapter 942: Ancient Elf History
The familiar interface opened in front of him, crisp and clean, lines of dark-gold light floating in the air.[Status Window Opened]

Sira whistled softly.
Lux stared at the numbers.
Not with awe.
With the expression of a CFO reviewing a quarterly report that looked good but not good enough to prevent shareholder complaints.
"Not bad."
Sira slowly turned toward him. "Not bad?"
Lux nodded. "Yes."
"Lux."
"What?"
"That status would make half of Hell kneel."
"Half of Hell has low standards."
Sira stared.
Then laughed.
The system chimed.
[Would you like to try crushing something, sir?]
Lux paused.
Sira covered her mouth and turned away, shoulders shaking.
[Current power output is now similar to a Sin Lord-tier entity.]
[Testing destructive capacity may provide motivational satisfaction.]
Sira burst out laughing.
Lux closed his eyes. "My own system is encouraging property damage."
[Clarification: Controlled property damage.]
"That is not better."
[It is slightly better.]
Sira leaned closer, grinning. "You should crush something."
"I am not crushing my furniture."
"You can buy more."
"That’s not the point."
"That’s exactly the point. You’re Greed."
Lux gave her a look.
Sira smiled brighter.
The system chimed again.
[Recommendation: Large boulder. Reinforced dummy. Obsolete royal statue.]
Lux opened one eye. "Obsolete royal statue?"
[Suggestion based on current emotional context.]
Sira laughed harder.
Lux sighed. "Tempting."
[Shall I locate one?]
"No."
[Noted.]
Lux leaned back, eyes returning to the status window. His smile faded slowly. "But not enough."
Sira’s laughter softened.
She understood immediately.
The numbers were absurd.
The power was terrifying.
Similar to a Sin Lord-tier entity.
For most demons, that would be the peak.
For Lux, it was a step.
Not the throne.
Not the summit.
Not enough to stand in front of Kaelmor and guarantee victory.
Not enough to protect everyone if the king moved directly.
Not enough to burn Hell and make him lose everything without paying a price that might destroy Lux first.
"It’s not as powerful as the king," Lux said.
The system responded immediately.
[Correct.]
[Not yet, sir.]
Sira stopped smiling.
Lux’s eyes remained on the numbers.
[Estimated Requirement: Minimum 2X Current Overall Power Output]
[Additional Requirement: Expanded Battle Skill Library]
[Additional Requirement: Combat Experience Against Sovereign-Tier Opponents]
[Note: User spent most of the past several hundred years behind a desk.]
Lux stared.
Sira slowly looked at the system.
Then at Lux.
Then back at the system.
Lux said, very calmly, "Thank you for the reminder."
[You are welcome, sir.]
"That was sarcasm."
[Detected.]
"And yet you continued."
[Also detected.]
Sira lost it again.
Lux pinched the bridge of his nose. "Wonderful. My system has developed workplace hostility."
[Correction: Constructive honesty.]
"I preferred you when you only enabled financial crimes."
[Financial crime module remains available.]
Sira slapped the sofa cushion, laughing.
Lux couldn’t help it.
A small smile broke through.
Ridiculous.
All of this was ridiculous.
A servant finally entered with a tray.
Fresh coffee.
Dark.
Perfect.
Blessed by no god, which made it better.
Lux took the cup with deep reverence.
Sira watched him. "You look happier holding coffee than when people praise you."
"Coffee is more honest."
"You are impossible."
"Frequently."
He took a sip.
The world improved by twelve percent.
Maybe fifteen.
Lux looked at his status again.
Then at the window beyond the living room.
The mortal city gleamed under afternoon light.
Somewhere far above, Heaven was sealing its own house.
Somewhere below, Hell was rearranging around a terrified king.
Lux smiled faintly.
Not enough.
Not yet.
But getting there.
Then his phone rang.
A mortal phone ring.
A regular, painfully normal, slightly outdated ringtone coming from somewhere inside his pocket like a tiny mortal creature screaming for attention.
Lux paused mid-sip.
Coffee cup halfway to his lips.
Sira blinked beside him. "What was that?"
Lux slowly lowered the cup. "My phone."
Sira looked amused immediately. "You have a phone?"
"I am currently offended that you sound surprised."
"You answer messages through floating demon screens."
The phone rang again.
Lux reached into his pocket and pulled it out, looking at the device like he had discovered an ancient artifact from a fallen civilization. Which, honestly, compared to his system interface, it kind of was. "I almost forgot I had this."
Sira leaned closer, eyes sparkling. "That is such a rich demon thing to say."
Lux ignored her and unlocked the screen. "I should just connect the call to my system."
[Clarification: Chat applications have already been integrated.]
[Limitation: Mortal call networks cannot be fully processed through infernal interface without external routing permissions.]
The phone kept ringing.
Lux checked the caller ID.
Ely.
His expression changed.
Lux accepted the call and lifted the phone to his ear. "Ely."
Her voice came through smooth, quick, and far more alert than casual conversation required. "I found it."
Lux’s posture straightened by a fraction.
Sira’s teasing expression faded.
"The book?" Lux asked.
"Yes. The one that might show the history of the elves. Not modern noble records. Older. Much older."
Lux’s eyes sharpened.
Ancient elf history.
That mattered.
Especially now.
Ely continued, "It references the ancient elves. Possibly before the current high elf houses formed. The language is difficult, but I recognized some symbols from my family archives."
Lux’s fingers tightened slightly around the phone. "Where is it?"
"I’ve already sent it to you through my assistant."
Lux blinked. "To my mansion?"
"Yes. He should arrive soon."
Lux smiled slowly. "Thank you, Ely."
Her voice softened slightly. "Be careful with it."
His smile faded by one degree. That sounded less like concern and more like warning. "I will."
A pause.
Then Ely added, quieter, "Lux... that book felt strange."
His gaze sharpened further. "Strange how?"
"I don’t know yet. Heavy. Like it didn’t want to be opened."
Lux’s smile returned, thin and dangerous. "Then I suppose we should open it politely."
Ely sighed through the phone. "You and your definition of politely terrify me."
"As it should."
Ely’s voice warmed. "I’ll see you later."
The call ended.
Lux lowered the phone slowly.
Sira watched him.
"So?"
Lux took one long sip of coffee. Then looked toward the mansion entrance. "Apparently, we’re receiving ancient elf history."
