Chapter 750: Warlord Sword Art
Chapter 750: Warlord Sword Art
CH750 Warlord Sword Art ***
All-Weapon Intent!
Alex’s weapon intent coated his hands as he gripped the Skywalker Sword.
Roar!
The gorilla charged forward as Alex adopted a stance with his sword held at his side, its point angled skyward.
[Abyssal Conqueror’s Steps: Third Step—Wraith’s Crossing]!
Alex’s figure blurred as he dashed forward to meet the gorilla at a speed utterly unbecoming of a mage.
His figure flashed back into view beside the charging beast.
[Warlord Sword Art—]
The name of the sword style flashed through his mind as he swung.
[First Sword—Slash]!
The blade sliced horizontally through the gorilla’s midsection, just above its waist and beneath the wooden plates protecting its torso.
Then Alex vanished again, his own momentum and that of the gorilla creating immediate separation between them.
The gorilla looked down in surprise as blood began flowing from the wound across its midsection.
Rage filled its eye, turning the already crimson orb an even deeper shade of red.
However, Alex was not foolish enough to give the beast time to recover and counterattack.
He struck first.
[First Step—Ghost Step]!
The instant he regained his footing, he pivoted and launched himself back towards the gorilla.
He arrived directly before it, materialising like a ghost just as the enraged beast turned around, intending to charge him.
Its lower body and torso were completely exposed to his attack.
[Second Sword—Thrust]!
Alex drove his sword forward as if intending to skewer the gorilla outright.
To his surprise, the beast reacted.
Displaying astonishing agility for a creature of its size, the gorilla threw itself backwards, narrowly escaping the reach of Alex’s blade.
Or so it thought.
’Sorry,’ Alex smiled inwardly. ’But that isn’t enough.’
A compressed bolt of sword energy shot from the tip of the Skywalker Sword like a bullet.
It punched through the beast’s armour, pierced its chest, tore through its heart, and burst out through its back.
Incredibly, the projectile still retained enough force to tear through two more gorillas standing in its path.
Thump!
The gorilla alpha dropped onto its back and stared up at the sky.
Confusion and unwillingness still lingered in its eye as blood pooled beneath its body.
The beast stubbornly clung to life with its formidable vitality and attempted to force itself back to its feet.
Unfortunately, it achieved nothing more than causing its blood to gush out even faster.
Alex walked up to the struggling creature, which could barely raise an arm.
He casually pushed the limb aside before plunging his sword into the beast’s heart once more.
[Dragon Kumite: Blast]!
A small, localised explosion erupted around the blade, obliterating whatever remained of the gorilla’s heart.
Alex then withdrew the sword and severed the beast’s head.
The gorilla was now unquestionably dead.
Several gorillas appeared to notice the fall of their alpha.
A few immediately turned and fled, but most charged towards Alex in a frenzy of vengeance.
"Leader!"
"Boss!"
Kavakan and Mogal called out instinctively as they positioned themselves in front of Alex, preparing to halt the incoming tide of gorillas.
Strangely, rather than retreating or preparing a spell, Alex simply plunged his sword back into the gorilla alpha’s corpse.
The troops scrambling to intercept the charging beasts watched in confusion, wondering why Alex was not casting a spell.
The answer soon became apparent.
Ambient mana rushed towards the pommel of the Skywalker Sword as though drawn by a powerful magnetic force, while the gorilla alpha’s corpse rapidly shrivelled as its blood was likewise absorbed into the blade.
The moment Alex withdrew the sword from the corpse, the weapon emitted a crimson sheen born from the blood and mana it had consumed.
Alex raised the now-crimson sword towards the sky.
[Warlord Sword Art: Final Sword—Rain of Swords!]
A beam of mana shot upward into the heavens before tracing a great parabolic arc.
In the next instant, it descended towards the battlefield, splitting into countless smaller beams that took the form of miniature Skywalker Swords.
The countless energy swords rained down upon the advancing gorilla horde with deadly precision.
They pierced through the unfortunate beasts’ heads and bodies before detonating with controlled force, rupturing internal organs within, killing them instantly.
The sudden attack stemmed the gorilla tide, allowing the Fortuna forces to respond and put down the remainder.
Alex no longer needed to do anything as the others took care of the situation.
Particularly Zora, who unleashed her own [Icicle Shower] spell, wiping out the bulk of the surviving gorillas.
Alex turned his attention towards the direction from which the gorillas had emerged.
Through his Spirit Sight, he could see traces of spatial energy lingering in the aftermath of a spatial collapse.
’I see... these creatures came from a hidden Berserk Beast nest that collapsed. That explains why they suddenly appeared out of nowhere.’
His brow creased into a frown as the realisation troubled him.
’This is the second nest break we’ve encountered since passing through the valley entrance. We are still far from the border of the Great Berserk Beast Forest, yet nest breaks have already occurred this frequently...
’I hope this is merely a coincidence and that I’m overthinking things.’
There was a possibility that the aristocracy had a legitimate reason for establishing a five-thousand-kilometre buffer zone.
If Berserk Beast nest breaks occurred more frequently within this region, it could justify creating such a large buffer and positioning the stronghold further back.
’Let’s reach the staging area first before giving in to paranoia and jumping to conclusions.’
He shook his head.
By the time he turned back towards the battlefield, his troops had already eliminated the remaining Berserk Beasts and begun looting the corpses.
Fortunately—or unfortunately, considering the value of the loot—the gorillas were primarily Class 1 beasts, with only the alpha having reached Class 2.
They posed little threat to a hundred-man force, but that also meant the spoils were worth relatively little.
Kavakan walked over to loot the gorilla alpha Alex had killed, but the young noble shook his head.
"Don’t bother looking for a beast core. The sword already absorbed it."
Alex scratched his cheek as his force commander gave him a look that shifted from dismay to reproach.
Had he been anyone else, the weretiger would undoubtedly have showered him with saliva-filled reproach for killing the most valuable beast in such a wasteful manner.
Even then, though Kavakan did not say anything, the look alone was enough.
