Chapter 376: Letting Out Frustrations [Bonus Chapter]"We will talk about it at another time.
His Majesty might return soon.
What I wanted to tell you now was that I had to leave for a while, so you ought to be careful."
Alwin reverted them to their original topic.
They got sidetracked due to everything he told her.
"Is that why you told me all this?"
"Yes. I had to tell you, so you won’t do anything stupid while I am away."
Alwin gave her a warning glare.
"I won’t forgive you if you do anything funny while I am gone."
"Humph.
I won’t!
I’ve learned my lesson," Arabella pouted.
She wasn’t even planning to do anything.
He didn’t need to give her these warnings anymore.
"I wonder," Alwin scoffed at her.
’Geez. Why is he acting like this?
I already know he doesn’t really blame me.
Is he doing this just to make fun of me?
Or is he still frustrated that Ferdinand scolded him last time?’
"I won’t," Arabella glared back.
But Alwin was not in the least bit intimidated.
"You stabbed and slapped me because you thought I was Marcus.
Would you have plotted something against him if I hadn’t told you about all this?"
Arabella turned silent at that.
Of course, she would have.
But now, she knew Marcus was not the real culprit so there was no reason to do so.
"I already apologized repeatedly for that.
Are you still angry about it, after all?"
She wondered if Alwin still had hard feelings about it since it was the first time that he got slapped and stabbed like that.
She, herself, does still feel bad about it.
"I don’t. I knew that was my fault," Alwin at least admitted that much.
"Then, would you have not plotted Marcus’ demise if you thought it was him who poisoned Fermin?"
"I would have.
Rather, I was already preparing measures against him.
But then, I recovered more memories about the past and learned that he wasn’t the real culprit."
"See? That was what I was thinking of doing.
It wasn’t something stupid.
And even though I hate whoever it was that did it, it’s not like I would really do something if he wouldn’t try to harm me or Fermin this time," Arabella pointed out.
"I know. That’s exactly why I’m talking to you now."
Alwin just shrugged his shoulders as if he wasn’t the one who said she might do something stupid earlier.
"Don’t tell me you still think everything that happened in the past was my fault despite everything you know?"
Arabella asked directly so Alwin would just let it out of the bag.
"Well, you are still at fault.
If you didn’t believe all of Evania’s lies, it wouldn’t have gone to that extent."
’He just wants to complain at me, doesn’t he?’
"Well, sorry for being naïve and gullible," Arabella replied sarcastically.
She decided to annoy Alwin too since he was trying to irritate her to see what she tries to do now that they knew each other’s secrets.
"That you are," Alwin harrumphed.
"Well, since you are so knowledgeable and capable.
You could have enlightened me back then so I wouldn’t have fallen for their tricks like that.
If you were my trusted confidant back then instead of my maids, none of that would have happened," Arabella said just to annoy Alwin too.
"Hmph. I don’t want to be that close to you," Alwin rejected.
"See?
I was in a foreign place where I knew no one.
There was no one I could trust, and I didn’t know whom I could trust either.
The closest people I had were my maids who took care of me every day.
They were the only ones I learned to trust because they were the only ones I was often with.
How would I have known what they were thinking when they were all nice to me the whole time, they were with me?
Renee behaved perfectly.
There was no hint she was doing something behind my back."
Arabella had been aching to tell him all this when he kept complaining about her being gullible.
She may have been gullible indeed.
But should she have lived her life living in fear of betrayal and distrusting the whole world as if everyone were traitors?
"You could have been more observant and discerning like you are now," Alwin was stubborn too.
"Then, sorry I wasn’t.
And I am not more discerning now.
I simply had this ability I was bestowed this time.
And I had my past experiences from my previous life to base on.
If I didn’t have those, I would probably be the same unless the circumstances changed."
Arabella and Alwin continued irritating each other.
They did not notice the time pass as they pointed out to each other the faults each party’s side had regarding what happened in the past.
Alwin had a lot of complaints and Arabella hit back with complaints she didn’t even know she had.
"Then how do you explain having to cheat on His Majesty repeatedly?"
Alwin pointed out what irritated him the most since Ferdinand went berserk in Estrella every time he knew she slept with another man.
It took Alwin and Raymond taking turns to calm him down.
The others tried to help too but to no avail.
But Arabella did not know about all this.
When she did not know Ferdinand loved her and that he was hurting, none of those who knew at least told or gave her a clue that he does.
Not even when both sides were already suffering so much.
They both misunderstood each other, and they both didn’t try to reach out.
Or they did but both of them did not notice?
Maybe they tried.
But they both already had too many misunderstandings about each other to notice what the other was truly trying to do.
Were her plots her way of calling out to her husband then?
If it was, then even that, was misunderstood by them both.
