Chapter 897: Garrett: Teacher, Did You Steal My Idea?

"Ah!!!"

Garrett instinctively took a step forward, spreading his arms, wanting to help block the strike. Even though his teacher was a legendary mage, he was still human; being struck by lightning was very dangerous!

Natural lightning could reach hundreds of millions of volts; who knew how powerful the lightning created by the Church was?

Reaching out his hand, he suddenly remembered that he was still separated from the battlefield by a strait. Even if he ran from his current mountain peak to the coast, there would still be a distance of several miles...

Separated by such a great distance, he was powerless to help.

Beside him, Cirilla also jumped up. There was a clattering noise, and Garrett wasn’t sure if something had been knocked over or broken. Out of the corner of his eye, he seemed to catch a glimpse of a dazzling silver light.

Then, he saw that bolt of lightning growing smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared into his teacher’s palm.

"Belluno, what were you thinking?" A familiar voice echoed across the sky. Although the sound was somewhat distorted by the distance, the slow, mocking tone was unmistakably his teacher's:

"Using this level of lightning against me, the Lord of Thunder?"

Garrett relaxed his shoulders and secretly smiled. Exactly, his teacher was the Lord of Thunder! In the entire Conjuration School, and even in the entire Magic Council, if his teacher claimed to be second in mastering lightning, no one would dare claim to be first! The people on the side of the Radiant Church were clearly no match for his teacher in playing with lightning~~~

At the Kallas Cathedral, the clergy led by Archbishop Cassino were in a state of extreme anger. The most common and widely known power of the Radiant Lord was the ubiquitous sunlight, but the most intimidating power was lightning—

And this legendary mage dared to call himself the Lord of Thunder!

If it weren’t for the support of the Council President, the Lord of Thunder would have been at the top of the Church’s wanted or purification lists!

Encountering him in the wild was enough to warrant a Church-led siege by several legendary figures. And now, he dared to stand openly before the main force of the Church at the Holsea Strait blockade and take action...

"Everyone, do not act rashly; follow the plan." Archbishop Cassino ordered with suppressed anger: "We will attack head-on to attract the heretic’s attention—"

The sacred hymn reverberated, and the holy clouds churned, power gradually gathering. Garrett held his breath, waiting to see what kind of attack the opposing side would launch and how his teacher would respond. Suddenly, from both the left and right, four bolts of lightning shot forth!

These four bolts of lightning were fired simultaneously from the four cathedrals on the left and right of Kallas. They crossed the sky, instantly locking the Lord of Thunder in an "X" shape—

Before Garrett could blink, he felt his retinas seared with a bright white "X". Extremely bright, extremely thick, it filled his entire field of vision, and for a moment, he couldn't see where his teacher was...

This lightning was so strong!

Just by looking at the visual effect, it was much stronger than the previous one!

Was that previous bolt a feint...

Garrett dared not blink, fearing he might miss any detail. He cast a healing spell on himself, not considering whether it could remove retinal afterimages in his haste.

Perhaps the spell worked, or maybe the lightning's brilliance had damaged his macula, but Garrett saw a vast, dark patch in front of him.

He blinked hard twice and looked again, seeing clearly that a black hole or a black sphere stood in front of Kallas City...

The sphere reached above the city walls, down to the ground, slowly rotating, infinitely deep. The four bolts of lightning hit the sphere, not penetrating immediately but instead forming a fine electric grid, crackling with countless small explosions.

Beside Garrett, Cirilla gasped softly.

"This...this is...a demiplane..."

Garrett shivered. Indeed, the black sphere resembled his teacher's demiplane—he had been inside more than once, a boundless, directionless space filled with lightning.

Perhaps his teacher's demiplane could indeed absorb these bolts of lightning without damage?

"Impossible! How could you block it?!"

A high-pitched, furious voice came from one of the cathedrals to the right of Kallas. From within the demiplane, a familiar, laughing voice leisurely responded:

"Understanding the essence of lightning makes it easy. Here's a lesson: whether it's magical lightning or the Radiant Lord's lightning, it's all about the movement of electrons and transfer of charges..."

Garrett couldn't help but laugh. Explaining the essence of lightning like this would surely infuriate the Radiant Church.

However, the electric grid on his teacher's demiplane looked like his protective suit with a grounding wire.

Hmm...if it was modeled after the suit, he'd definitely ask his teacher for a gift when he returned!

Garrett relaxed a bit, lowered his arms, and continued watching. The demiplane spun for a while before gradually shrinking, the silver light fading, and the lightning disappearing.

Some of the lightning might have been grounded, and some might have been absorbed by his teacher's demiplane—

What was it like using divine spells to charge the Lord of Thunder's demiplane?

Garrett wanted to interview the opponents, but sadly, the Radiant Church members, especially those from Kallas Cathedral, would likely never get the chance:

With a loud bang, the entire cathedral was lifted into the air, its spire, bell tower, roof, and stained glass windows flying into the sky. Beneath the cathedral, a hemispherical light mass expanded, continuously growing larger and larger...

A tremendous shockwave followed, an unprecedented brilliant light burst forth.

"Get down!"

Garrett instinctively shouted, closing his eyes, and pulled Cirilla to the ground. However, as he fell, he realized his left hand was on the ground while his right hand still clung to Cirilla, with no change in position.

Cirilla stood tall and unmoving, leaving Garrett awkwardly hanging in midair, eyes closed, one hand on the ground, utterly embarrassed...

"Garrett, what's wrong with you?"

The silver dragon girl asked softly. Garrett struggled to get up but couldn't muster the strength—his left hand couldn't support his whole body, and he feared pulling Cirilla with his right hand. Cirilla, however, chuckled, grabbed his arm, and lifted him:

Garrett flailed briefly before awkwardly standing up straight. He raised his head and looked across, freezing at what he saw:

What did he see?!
