Chapter 28 Nova the Wizard: Learning Requires Thick Skin
Chapter 28 Nova the Wizard: Learning Requires Thick Skin
Carrera looked at Leo with eyes that were like those of a wild beast, ready to devour its prey.
Leo, however, remained calm, believing he was simply stating his reasonable demands.
Seeing the tense atmosphere between the two, Eiffel quickly spoke up, saying, "Carriela, let's leave it at that. When the time comes, let Wizard Danville decide for himself."
Carrie's expression shifted, before she finally let out a cold snort and said, "Fine, whatever. Anyway, the mission failed, Eiffel, the responsibility is yours. Young Wizard, don't expect to get a single magic stone from us."
Seeing that Leo and Carrie had fallen out, John smiled slightly. He felt a surge of approval for Carrie.
Eiffel continued, "Then there's the scheduling."
"Stonefish are territorial; they generally only swim and hunt within their own activity range."
"It only takes half a day's sail to reach the Stonefish's territory. We should be able to reach it this afternoon. However, on the return trip, we need to detour to the Crimson Sea, which takes a full day from the Stonefish's territory."
"Including the return trip, it will take us about two days to get back to the Tower of Dawn."
Leo frowned and asked, "Why do we need to take a detour?"
Eiffel said, "The reason for the detour is that we need to take Wizard Nova and the others to the Crimson Sea first."
When Leo heard that the reason was Nova and the others, he didn't say anything.
Don't suggest taking a detour.
Even though Nova and the others said they would have to wait ten days to return, Leo had no choice but to accept it.
Seeing that Leo accepted, Eiffel said, "It will be quite some time before we enter the Stonefish's territory. Please rest and prepare for a while."
Leo then left the cabin and returned to the deck.
"Mr. Danville, please wait a moment."
The young-looking Hughes strode up to Leo and said, "I have a favor to ask. I wonder if you could teach me how to use mental radiation?"
Hughes looked at Leo with a nervous expression.
Leo said, "No."
Hughes did not give up, but said, "I can offer five magic stones."
Leo pondered for a moment, then said, "I can tell you the principle I've figured out, but I can't guarantee you'll be able to learn it."
"That works too."
Hughes readily agreed and immediately took out five magic stones to make a deal with Leo on the spot.
After accepting the magic stone, Leo briefly explained the underlying principle to Hughes.
The principle is actually very simple; it's about understanding mental fluctuations.
However, it's very difficult to learn.
After hearing Leo's words, Hughes experimented for a while but still couldn't grasp the principle.
Hughes unleashed his magical hand, and a shield gleaming with metallic luster appeared.
Hughes grabbed the handle of the shield and placed it in front of him.
He took a small piece of wood from his person and placed it on the shield.
The small piece of wood had no effect whatsoever.
Hughes frowned and said, "Psychic radiation is really hard to control."
Seeing that Hughes hadn't learned it, Leo didn't have any good ideas either.
He had taught Hughes everything he could, but Hughes still hadn't learned it, so Leo had no other options.
"Young wizard budding, don't be anxious. Most wizards learn mental radiation only after they condense a mental seed. You haven't become a wizard yet, so it's not strange that you don't know it now."
A voice rang out from the side.
Leo and Hughes looked over at the same time.
"Lord Nova the Wizard"
Upon seeing that it was Nova, Hughes immediately greeted him respectfully.
Leo, on the other hand, had met Nova before. He bowed slightly and said in a calm tone, "Wizard Nova."
Nova gave Hughes a few pointers before turning to Leo.
Under his scrutiny, Leo felt as if Nova had seen through all his secrets.
"Danville, this is quite unexpected. I didn't expect you to understand mental radiation in such a short time."
Nova remarked, "The principle of mental radiation isn't difficult, but that applies to wizard budding wizards with high mental talent. For someone with level 3 mental talent like you, it should still be quite challenging."
"Generally speaking, it is only mastered after the spiritual seed has been condensed."
"However, given the growth of your mental energy, it's not surprising that you can learn it. Your mental energy growth has far exceeded what a level 3 mental strength talent should be like."
Upon hearing this, Leo felt a little nervous, afraid that Leo would notice something amiss. He said, "Witch Nova, I was actually quite surprised about this as well. My mentor, Witch Sally, said that this is very likely a change brought about by my second awakening of my spiritual talent."
"A second awakening..." Nova pondered for a moment and said, "That is indeed possible. However, in that case, my loss would be quite significant. I would have given away a genius with a level 4 or even level 5 mental talent to the Esmond Gathering for nothing."
Nova shook his head.
Seeing that Nova believed him, Leo finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Leo then asked, "Master Nova, are you also here to hunt sea monsters?"
"No, the three of us are going out to sea to find some medicinal herbs for research. We just happened to be on the way."
Leo looked at Nova, a thought suddenly occurring to him, and asked, "Wizard Nova, I have a question I'd like to ask you. I wonder if this is a convenient time for you?"
In their previous interactions, Leo felt that Nova had a tendency to be a know-it-all.
Now that he'd finally run into Nova, and he even struck up a conversation with him, Leo didn't want to miss this opportunity to learn from him.
Nova said, "You really don't understand what politeness is."
"Haha, Wizard Nova, I apologize for my abruptness," Leo said with an embarrassed laugh.
Nova replied, "Fine, ask away."
Leo was somewhat surprised; he had thought Nova would refuse, but he hadn't expected her to agree.
However, Leo immediately seized the opportunity and said, "It's about the Hand of Magic."
"Why is Hand of Magic considered the most basic spell?" Leo said after carefully choosing his words, "Hand of Magic is simply the manipulation of mental energy, which is the same as the blending, sorting, and smelting process in potion-making."
"But blending, sorting, and smelting are not spells, but rather the manipulation of spiritual energy."
"I can't tell the difference between the two."
Nova looked at Leo with some surprise and said, "To be honest, I'm surprised by the question you raised. Even wizards who have condensed spiritual seeds know how to do it but not why."
"They often become curious about this only when they venture into higher realms of wizardry in the future."
"Although this question is very simple to answer, I personally recommend that you study the subject of Magical Machining, which may be able to resolve your doubts."
