Chapter 159 Conspiracy
Chapter 159 Conspiracy
Seeing that Cheng Zheng didn't speak and walked forward with a sullen face, Su Wan felt a little uneasy.
Could it have come to this? He still wants to protect that little vixen?
She caught up with him, her voice rising several decibels as she exclaimed excitedly, "Brother Zheng, Lin Shuyao's behavior is illegal! If the factory leaders find out, they will hold her accountable!"
Cheng Zheng didn't even turn his head, leaving with the words, "This is none of your business."
"How can this not concern me? I'm part of the factory too." Su Wan walked around in front of him, blocking his path, her face upturned with an urgent expression. "Don't you think this is very strange? How did Lin Shuyao obtain all of Shen Qing's identity documents? And how did she manage to travel all the way from such a remote place as northern Guizhou to northern Beijing alone? Is someone helping her behind the scenes? Does she have accomplices? Is there some other conspiracy?"
She paused, her voice carrying a hint of aggression: "For example, she entered the factory intending to steal technical documents. She had access to so much technical information provided by Soviet experts. Did she tamper with the data during the translation process? Did she deliberately mislead the technicians into developing in the wrong direction? Or did she leak those classified documents to the people behind it? I think this is no small matter and must be reported truthfully to the factory leadership."
Cheng Zheng stopped and looked at her, his face expressionless: "Oh. So what do you think I should do?"
Su Wan thought he had been persuaded and said indignantly, "Of course, we should have the security department arrest her, interrogate her severely, and make her confess everything—whether she had accomplices, whether there was a conspiracy, and then sentence her accordingly!"
Cheng Zheng sneered, staring at her, and said, word by word, "Su Wan, mind your own business. Don't meddle in things that aren't your concern."
Su Wan's face stiffened. She hadn't expected that even after something like this happened, he would still protect her.
"Brother Zheng, I'm doing this for your own good. If you don't pursue this matter, and Lin Shuyao really gets into trouble and it gets discovered in the future, you'll also bear joint responsibility."
"Are you threatening me?" Cheng Zheng's voice deepened.
"I'm not threatening you, I'm just stating the facts." Su Wan changed her perspective. "Besides, the real Shen Qing is still in the countryside. Don't you think it's unfair to her? She should have been the one working in the factory, and she should have been the one enjoying a good life, but someone else took her opportunity. The real Shen Qing is your cousin, don't you feel sorry for her?"
Cheng Zheng completely ignored her words, only coldly reminding her, "You were only granted five days of leave. It's almost over."
The implication was that it was time to go back.
Seeing that he wouldn't listen to reason, Su Wan became extremely anxious: "I'm not going back! I don't want to see you do something foolish! If your aunt and uncle find out about this, they won't let Lin Shuyao off the hook! I'm going to call them right now!"
Su Wan turned to leave.
"Zheng Bin." Cheng Zheng coldly uttered only one name.
Su Wan suddenly stopped in her tracks, then turned around, looking at Cheng Zheng with a feigned expression of confusion.
Cheng Zheng: "You should know Zheng Bin, right? Before you went on that blind date with Sun Hu's father, you dated him for a while."
"So what?"
"Sun Hu was a premature baby."
Swah——
Su Wan's face turned deathly pale instantly, and her lips trembled slightly: "Zheng-Brother Zheng, what do you mean?"
"It doesn't mean anything. You'd better watch yourself."
Leaving behind a warning, Cheng Zheng turned and left. Some things only need to be said without going into detail; if Su Wan were smart, she would know what she should and shouldn't do.
Actually, he discovered this a while ago.
Given that our comrade has passed away, it seems pointless to pursue the matter further.
The Sun family had already suffered the pain of losing a son. If they had known that their only grandson was not their own flesh and blood, they didn't know if they could have gotten over it. So he turned a blind eye to it.
……
Cheng Zheng went to the family compound of the Yuncheng Public Security Bureau.
His military academy classmate, Jin Song, was assigned to the Yuncheng Public Security Bureau after being discharged from the army due to injury. They had been classmates for several years and their friendship had never been broken. Later, they went their separate ways and contacted each other less, but that friendship remained.
Before coming to Yuncheng, Cheng Zheng had already informed him.
"Cheng Zheng?!" Jin Song was stunned for a moment when he opened the door, then grinned and punched him on the shoulder. "When did you arrive? You said you were coming to Yuncheng, I thought you'd be here in a few days, I didn't expect it to be so soon. So, are you here on a business trip or something?"
"I'm here to find someone."
"Who are you looking for?"
"My wife."
Jin Song blinked, a little confused. "Your wife? You're married?"
"We were getting married soon, but my wife ran away." Cheng Zheng gave a self-deprecating smile.
Jin Song paused for a second, thinking he was joking, then burst into laughter: "Your wife ran away? How could that be? Back in the day, every time we did a performance, the female members of the cultural troupe chased after us with love letters. I never thought a girl would marry you and then run away! This girl is interesting!"
"Yeah, it's quite interesting."
Jin Song noticed his expression was off, stopped smiling, and became serious: "Did your wife really run away? Are you really looking for her or just pretending? Did you two have a fight and she ran away in anger?"
"Yeah, pretty much," Cheng Zheng said in a low voice, his expression revealing a hint of fatigue.
He didn't even have a chance to vent his anger on her before she ran away without leaving a word.
Jin Song had never seen Cheng Zheng look so devastated. Even when they trained for two days and two nights in the past, Cheng Zheng would only catch his breath and sweat a little. But now, it felt like all his energy and spirit had been drained away. He was still alive, but his heart was dead.
I don't know which girl caused this.
That's really ruthless.
"Give me your sister-in-law's information, and I'll help you find her."
Cheng Zheng briefly explained Lin Shuyao's situation.
After listening, Jin Song pondered for a moment: "Hmm, I'll go to the train station these next few days to check the entry records, and then visit various streets as well. They're currently conducting a household registration survey; everyone entering the city needs to register. If my sister-in-law is in Yuncheng, I'm sure I can find her."
He paused, then changed the subject: "My sister-in-law took the train from Beijing to Guangzhou. If she didn't get off midway and actually went to Guangzhou, it wouldn't be so easy to find her there. That place has a port, is close to Hong Kong, and is a melting pot of all sorts of people; it's too easy for someone to hide there."
Cheng Zheng dared not think about what he would do if she were not in Yuncheng.
After visiting the Lin family today, he was no longer sure. She was living such a bad life there, she probably wouldn't come back. But if she went elsewhere without a letter of introduction and with an unknown background, she wouldn't be able to find a job. How would she survive then?
The money you carry with you will eventually run out.
The thought pierced his mind like a thorn, and he couldn't get it out. He clenched his hands at his sides, his knuckles turning white. His face was expressionless, and his eyes were as still as a pool of stagnant water.
Jin Song patted his shoulder, his tone becoming more relaxed: "I was just saying, maybe she's in Yuncheng. My sister-in-law is from Yuncheng, so she should come back eventually. I'll check her social connections to see if she's hiding at a classmate's house. Going to another city without a letter of introduction is quite troublesome, but it's also a coincidence that I'm going to Yangcheng on a business trip in a few days to work on a joint case. I can help inquire about my sister-in-law's whereabouts while I'm there."
Cheng Zheng nodded, his voice a little hoarse: "Thank you for your trouble."
"Hey, we're like family, why are you talking like this?"
"Then you can keep investigating. I have some things to take care of, I'll come over for dinner tonight."
"Okay, see you tonight." Jin Song smiled and saw him out.
