Chapter 154 You're finally awake!
Chapter 154 You're finally awake!
"Girl! Girl!"
"Oh my god, thank goodness you're finally awake! You scared me to death!"
In the pale golden light, the woman's face slowly became clear. She looked anxious, her mouth kept opening and closing, and her eyes were red, as if she had been crying.
Lin Shuyao recognized her; it was Zhou Chunmei.
"Where am I?" she asked, her voice dry and hoarse.
Zhou Chunmei: "The hospital, this is the staff hospital of Yangcheng No. 1 Steel Plant."
Lin Shuyao blinked slowly, and the pale golden halo disappeared. It turned out that it wasn't a halo at all, but the dazzling sunlight outside the window. The snow-white wasn't a cloud either, but the hospital ceiling.
She remembered that before she fainted, the back of her head was throbbing with pain, and she was hit with a hammer by one of the robbers' accomplices. After that, she couldn't remember anything.
and many more.
Can't remember?
Lin Shuyao's heart skipped a beat, but her expression remained unchanged, still looking as if she was trying to think of something.
Zhou Chunmei waved her hand in front of her eyes: "Girl, how are you feeling? You had five stitches in the back of your head, and they gave you anesthesia. The doctor said it might hurt a little when you wake up."
"It really hurts." Lin Shuyao frowned slightly, reaching up to touch the back of her head. She felt a thick bandage around her head, then lowered her hand, her eyes filled with deep confusion. "Comrade, who are you?"
Zhou Chunmei was stunned, her mouth agape, somewhat incredulous: "I'm Zhou Chunmei! We were in the same sleeper car, don't you remember me?"
Lin Shuyao squinted, raising her hand to rub her temples slowly, as if trying to recall. Then her eyes widened, filled with confusion: "Then who am I?"
"You...you don't remember who you are?"
"I don't remember."
Lin Shuyao stared blankly at Zhou Chunmei, like a newborn child who knew nothing about the world.
Zhou Chunmei became anxious: "Do you remember when you were on the train? A group of bandits boarded and robbed us. You notified us and even helped us disguise ourselves. Later, the robbers ran away, and when we went to the toilet, we ran into one of their accomplices. He hit us with a hammer, and you were knocked down by it. Luckily, there was a doctor on the train with his tools, and he stitched you up and bandaged you. Later, when we arrived at the station, Comrade Chen Jianguo and Comrade Zhao Xiulan came with me and took you to our factory's staff hospital."
Zhou Chunmei spoke at length, trying to help her recall.
Lin Shuyao remained bewildered after hearing the story, as if she had heard a story that had nothing to do with her.
"Oh no, that's it! One hit and you've lost your memory!" Zhou Chunmei slapped her thigh, drawing her conclusion. Then she frowned anxiously, "What are we going to do? You didn't introduce yourself to us in the car, and then you were knocked unconscious. I don't know who you are."
She stood up, spun around in place, and suddenly remembered something: "That's right! The letter of introduction! It should be in your luggage; it must have your information on it."
Zhou Chunmei quickly went to the corner of the wall, squatted down, unzipped the luggage bag, and reached inside to search.
I searched and searched, turning the pages twice, but I still couldn't find the letter of introduction.
"Could it be lost? The carriage was a mess at the time..." Zhou Chunmei muttered, then got up and returned to the bedside. "Girl, try to think it through again and see if you can recall any useful information."
Lin Shuyao frowned, her lips slightly pursed, as she tried hard to recall.
"How's it going? Remembered anything?"
Lin Shuyao's eyes were vacant, her voice soft, on the verge of tears: "There were some fragmented scenes... there was a man, I couldn't see his face... I cried, my heart ached... it's windy, so cold..."
As she spoke, her voice lowered, as if swallowed up by that hazy memory once again.
As Zhou Chunmei listened to these fragments of her story, she felt a pang of heartache for some reason.
This girl must have experienced something sad, so even though she has amnesia, those painful images still remain in her mind.
"Alright, young lady, you should rest first and talk about it when you've recovered. Just stay with me for now, you saved my life. If you hadn't pushed me to the front, I'd be the one lying here right now."
Lin Shuyao nodded as if she understood, her eyes still showing a hint of confusion.
Zhou Chunmei sighed and reached out to pull the blanket up for her: "You lie down and rest. I'll go to the cafeteria to get you something to eat and I'll be back in a bit."
"Yes, thank you, Comrade Zhou."
"No need to thank me. From today onwards, you're my goddaughter. Don't call me Comrade Zhou anymore, call me godmother."
Lin Shuyao was already thinking about how to find a new identity for herself, and this was like a pillow delivered to her when she was sleepy.
She didn't refuse and obediently called out, "Godmother."
Zhou Chunmei, recalling Lin Shuyao's delicate, pretty face before makeup, couldn't stop smiling and repeatedly agreed, "Yes! My goddaughter!"
She only has one son, and she always wanted a daughter when she was young, but unfortunately, she couldn't conceive. Now, God has sent her a ready-made daughter, and she's so beautiful too—how could she not be happy?
The more she looked at Lin Shuyao, the more she liked her.
Although Lin Shuyao's makeup was still on and her face was covered with dark spots and wrinkles, Zhou Chunmei knew what a beautiful face was hidden underneath.
"Now that you have amnesia, don't wander off. Those robbers on the train are wanted nationwide. I won't have a moment's peace until they're caught. I haven't told anyone around me that we were on that train, so don't let it slip either. What if the robbers are hiding among them?"
"Okay, godmother, I won't say anything." Lin Shuyao obediently replied.
Zhou Chunmei tucked the blanket around her one last time before leaving the ward.
