Chapter 71 Agate Peacock Eggs
Chapter 71 Agate Peacock Eggs
Klein told the three captains where Triss was hiding and where he and Mrs. Sharon would be meeting.
Dunn Smith glanced at the setting sun and said:
"Trist might be hiding in the apartment now, or he might have left for the dock area, so we need someone to go to both sides."
The commotion here is too great; a substitute punishment officer is needed to clean up the mess. The West District is under the jurisdiction of the Night Watchers, so I'll go there. Captain Leo will have to handle the dock area.
Captain Leo of the Mechanical Heart did not respond, but instead looked at Captain Cosmos.
Captain Gauss's expression was not good, because the dock area was also the jurisdiction of the Punisher Squad, but he had just failed to formulate a proper plan, which gave Mrs. Sharon an opportunity to take advantage of the situation, resulting in injuries to the squad members.
If it weren't for Leonard and Dunn Smith's experience and decisive action, the member of the Punisher team wielding the mirror-shaped seal might have been taken hostage or even killed.
Therefore, after the operation to kill Mrs. Sharon, he naturally would no longer be recognized as the supreme commander of the joint operation.
Captain Leo of the Mechanical Heart is still observing his reaction, but only to save face for him; in reality, he will no longer acknowledge his command.
Finally, Captain Gauss looked at his injured teammates and nodded in agreement with Dunn Smith's decision-making.
Because the Punisher's team's occult expert was injured, Dunn Smith left Klein behind to help clean up the scene before heading to the West End with the rest of the team to search for Triss.
Because the commotion was so great, many members of the substitute punishment team participated in blocking the surrounding crowd and treating their teammates.
Klein then went to the destroyed house to search for any possible clues.
Just as he was using his intuition to search for possible clues, he bumped into an iron box that had miraculously survived the explosion.
The outside of the iron box was slightly melted from the heat, but it was still clear that the inside was undamaged. Klein used the crystal pendant to perform a simple divination, and after confirming that there was no danger, he gently pried open the iron box and found a black egg the size of a regular egg inside. It had mysterious and intricate green patterns on it, making it look exceptionally alluring.
Klein quickly realized that this might be the agate peacock egg that Evan was looking for, because he knew that Evan was a dual-path extraordinary person and the material he was looking for was most likely an advancement material for the hunter path and the assassin path.
Lady Sharon is a Sequence 6 powerhouse in the Assassin path, so it's normal for her to have Assassin path materials in her possession.
Klein glanced furtively at the other substitutes around him and noticed that many of them were drawn to the extraordinary properties emanating from Mrs. Sharon. He quickly hid it in his pocket, then placed a diagram given to him by Evan inside, closed the lid, and stuffed it among the rubble. He then swiftly turned to search for clues elsewhere.
Soon someone found the metal box Klein had discarded. Opening it easily, they discovered a folded piece of paper inside. On it was a chibi-style drawing of a small figure with a large head and a tiny body. The little figure was rolling its large eyes downwards and sticking out its tongue. A prominent "Z" was drawn on its small body. Next to it was a sentence that read:
Thank you for helping me get rid of Mrs. Sharon. You've worked so hard. I really want to meet you in person to thank you, but can you find me?
Anyone could see the provocative meaning in the painting and that there was something fishy about the capture of Mrs. Sharon. So the member of the Punisher urgently called out to his captain.
Captain Gauss took the drawing and immediately understood its meaning. Feeling his anger rising, he shouted back:
"All the experts in the occult have come to take a look and see if they can find any clues."
Klein was the first to arrive, and after a flurry of activity, he solemnly declared, "This painting has been reversed by divination, and we cannot obtain any further information from it."
Klein wasn't afraid of being examined at all, because he painted it on the gray fog.
As expected, none of the experts in the occult discovered anything.
After completing his on-site investigation, Klein followed the Punisher to a nearby luxury hotel for a meal while waiting for news from the other two teams.
The Punisher Squad requisitioned an entire floor for its members to rest, and Klein was also given a separate room.
After Klein had a meal on the first floor of the hotel and got to know several members of the Punishers, Dunn Smith and Captain Leo of the Mechanical Heart finally arrived at the hotel with their team.
"Didn't you see Tris?" Captain Gauss stepped forward and asked anxiously.
"I saw it," Captain Leo replied directly. "But we didn't catch him. Someone rescued Chris. The person is skilled in flesh magic and should be the Rose Bishop, a Sequence 6 Mystic Path cultivator."
"The Rose Bishop?" Captain Gauss's eyes widened. The Aurora Society and the Storm Church were mortal enemies, so his reaction was very strong.
Then Captain Gauss quickly recalled the painting his team members had found in the ruins of Mrs. Sharon's villa, took it out, and handed it to the two captains, saying:
"If it really was the Rose Bishop of the Aurora Society who saved Triss, then the painting we found in the villa ruins means that we were used by the Aurora Society, and it must have been done by Mr. 'Z' of the Aurora Society."
Dunn Smith and Captain Leo also took a look at the painting, and at the same time felt challenged, and nodded in agreement with Captain Gauss's analysis.
"I didn't expect the fighting between secret organizations to be this intense. But why did he rescue Triss? Or is his goal in guiding us to kill Mrs. Sharon Triss?"
Dunn Smith was puzzled by Mr. Z's purpose.
"Regardless of Mr. Z's purpose, we need to re-examine the entire Clover massacre and the issues surrounding Mrs. Sharon. She is a well-known socialite in Tingen's high society, and we don't know how many important figures are involved. We need to investigate them one by one."
Captain Leo's words resonated deeply with both Captain Cosmos and Dunn Smith.
"However, I think we should start by investigating Mr. Z. After all, a Sequence 6 cultist who is not under our control is too dangerous for Tingen."
Captain Dunn, could you check the sources of information about Mrs. Sharon's meeting with Triss? Maybe you'll find clues about 'Mr. Z'.
Dunn Smith nodded, arranged for the other team members to eat first, and then went to find Klein to find out what was going on.
When Klein left Evan that highly sarcastic picture, he guessed that the captain would come looking for him, so he had already prepared a story to make the captain believe that he really just happened to see Mrs. Sharon.
Dunn Smith repeatedly verified the information but failed to notice any flaws, so he left.
