Chapter 36: Angus Territory
Chapter 36: Angus Territory
Duolong took the blunt knife and weighed it in his hand.
Doron showed no mercy, delivering a horizontal slash, a diagonal cut, and a straight thrust, all three landing squarely on the armor.
The wooden scale armor emitted a muffled thud; the scales that were struck were slightly dented but remained motionless.
The straight thrust was the most powerful, and the blunt blade tip slipped on the armor plate, deviating from its direction.
Leonardo da Vinci suggested, "Try the standard cross sword."
Doron tossed the blunt knife in his hand to Leonardo da Vinci, drew the sword from his waist, took a deep breath, and slashed down.
Snapped!
The effect wasn't much better than a blunt knife, but you could still see white marks on the scales, at least more noticeable than the marks left by a blunt knife.
The final straight thrust, however, was able to penetrate easily.
Doron quickly concluded: "These wooden scale armors offer good protection against slashing, but their piercing defense is rather poor."
"But on the wasteland, it's already considered excellent armor." Leonardo da Vinci took off the armor, carefully stroking the scars on it, and suddenly raised an eyebrow.
Doron realized this too, and the two said in unison, "This armor is easy to repair; we just need to replace the damaged plates."
"My lord, you are simply a genius."
"This wooden scale armor is quite light, more than half the weight of chainmail," Doron said. "I'll have to ask the lord later if we can get a few sets for our scout team too."
Leonardo da Vinci chuckled as he neatly folded the wooden scale armor. He didn't say, "This is mine," nor did he say, "It's a gift from the lord."
He simply folded it neatly and held it in his arms.
At dinner time in the evening, just as black bread and meat soup were set on the large round table in the courtyard of the pit-style courtyard, Fanta strode in.
He saw the wooden scale armor next to Doron, which Ron had just repaired and was now Leonardo da Vinci's armor.
Fanta paused noticeably, then asked Ron for the Wood Scale Armor in a voice rarely used by the captain of the guard.
Duolong was trying to suppress his laughter, his shoulders shaking.
After testing the wood scale armor, Doron immediately informed Fanta of the results, which led to the current situation.
"My lord! As the captain of the guard, I'm still wearing chainmail. It's heavy and rattles so loudly that goblins can hear it from half a mile away when I'm on patrol!" Fanta's voice carried a sense of betrayal and grievance. "Da Vinci has only been with you for a short time, and he's already wearing new armor, while I haven't even touched it!"
Leonardo da Vinci immediately hugged the wooden scale armor in his arms even tighter.
"Captain Fanta, you already have a set of steel plate armor and an ironwood shield."
"How can they be the same!" Fanta exclaimed, "I typed that myself, but you made this by hand!"
Old Hall chimed in leisurely, "Fanta, when you were little, your master gave you a sword, and you slept with it for three days straight. You're probably going to treat something the young master made by hand as a precious artifact, aren't you?"
Fanta blushed but did not refute.
Ron put down his spoon.
"Fanta, we can only make a maximum of four sets of this armor per day. The wood scale armor is just a transitional piece of equipment; its advantages are that it's light and cheap, but its defensive capabilities are inferior to your steel plate armor. You are an Earth Knight, and charging into battle in plate armor is the proper way to go. Until the production problem of the wood scale armor is resolved, I will not consider using conversion magic to produce wood scale armor."
Fanta fell silent immediately after hearing this.
We can't expect the lord to produce wood scale armor every day; otherwise, what's the point of developing the territory?
Ron added.
"I plan to make two more Embroidered Spring Blades, and I will reward you and Duolong with one each."
"Embroidered Spring Blade!" Fanta's attention shifted instantly. He looked at the knife at Leonardo da Vinci's waist. It had an ebony hilt, a blade with cloud and dragon patterns, and tassels hanging from the end of the scabbard, hanging on the waist of the former criminal Leonardo da Vinci. It was so ornate that it was unbelievable.
Fanta subtly hinted to Leonardo da Vinci several times to show him the knife, but da Vinci politely declined each time, saying that "a knife given by the lord cannot be touched by just anyone."
Doron put down the black bread in his hand.
"Thank you, lord!"
And so, the conversation at the dinner table shifted from the wooden scale armor to the embroidered spring knife, and then from the embroidered spring knife to the territory's weaponry.
Fanta suggested producing a batch of melee weapons, since they couldn't rely solely on spears for the entire battle.
Tang En was concerned about whether the daily output of iron ore could keep up with the consumption of weapons production. Old Hall was silently calculating the schedule of magic allocation in his mind. He had been spending most of his time recently going between the brick kiln and the volcanic ash lime mortar workshop, responsible for solidifying various missing materials.
When Old Hall saw the wooden scales, he knew he would have another thing to do, which made him both excited and helpless.
Ron tapped the table, and everyone quieted down.
"Although I will no longer use conversion magic to produce wood scale armor, I have recorded the production process. I will guide the production and try to make it our early standard equipment. Tang En will be responsible for supplying the materials. Tung oil and bison hide are on the procurement list."
Ron had barely finished speaking when he heard someone shout from the watchtower.
"The Green Squad, led by Thun, is back."
Upon hearing this, everyone stood up.
Ron's eyes also lit up. Thun's trip this time was partly for reconnaissance and partly for searching for the Earth Rock Potato Seeds.
Since they've returned at this time, they must have found the earth rock potato seed.
Ron put down the black bread in his hand, picked up the kettle, and strode towards the north gate.
As soon as Thun and his goblins entered the city, they saw Ron leading a large group of people.
Thun immediately knelt on one knee.
"My lord, I have successfully found the Earth Rock Potato Seed."
Ron readily agreed and handed the earthenware pot and kettle to Thun.
"Have some water first, you guys did a great job."
Thun gratefully accepted the water jug and drank deeply. He then passed the jug to his fellow countrymen, but by the time it reached the third person, it was empty. However, Mrs. Moriel had already arranged for water to be brought, and it was quickly delivered to the other Greens.
The Grimm were the new ethnic group that Ron named these naturalized half-goblins. Thun and his men deeply resented goblins, and to continue calling them by this name would be an insult to them.
However, they needed a convenient name to refer to them, so Ron named them the Greens and named the first street under construction in the East District Green Street, where almost all the Greens were settled.
"Why is one person missing?"
Tuen lowered his head abruptly, his voice hoarse: "Anson... Anson is dead."
Suddenly, the surroundings became quiet.
Mrs. Moriel's hand, holding the water cup, froze in mid-air. Old Hall's smile vanished, and Fanta gripped the hilt of his sword tightly.
"We found that cliff; it's Angus territory. They were unreasonable, they just started shooting arrows... Anson was surrounded while covering our retreat. By the time we went back to find him, he was already..."
Thun couldn't continue.
Ron remained silent for a few moments.
"Angus Territory".
"Yes."
Ron didn't say another word, but everyone could see that his knuckles were turning white as he gripped the kettle.
Anson was the first Greenman Ron named for them.
It could be said that, apart from Thun and a few others who had names, the names of the rest of the Green people were given to them by Ron.
"That territory?"
"They call themselves the Angus Territory!"
"Very well, they actually dared to kill my men. I'll remember this grudge. When I get the chance, I'll make Angus pay for it in blood."
