Chapter 6 Conflict
Chapter 6 Conflict
Shen Yan turned his head and looked at the cell from which the sound came.
He is the prisoner in cell number 22, section C.
That prisoner was somewhat special; Shen Yan didn't see his file in the prison, and at first he was curious about who he was.
He had subtly inquired with Sun Fugui and Ma Danian, but both advised him not to ask unnecessarily.
Shen Yan was the kind of person who listened to advice the most. He understood that this prisoner was not simple and that he could not find out about him, so he gave up his curiosity.
I delivered his meals and water every day as required, but I never spoke to him.
Seeing that it was him calling him, Shen Yan turned around and prepared to leave.
The prisoner in cell number 22 shouted loudly when he saw Shen Yan turn around and leave.
"If you don't come back, I'll stand right here at the prison gate and shout every day about your impending imprisonment."
"You probably don't want everyone to know, do you?"
「!?」
"..."
Shen Yan cursed his ancestors for eighteen generations in his mind.
"What kind of development is this? An incompetent husband?"
Left with no other option, Shen Yan turned back and went outside the prison cell.
The prisoner stood up and walked to the cell door.
Seeing that his hands and feet were shackled with black iron chains, Shen Yan couldn't help but take two steps back.
This was specially designed for martial arts experts and could restrict mid-level martial artists. Although Zhu Zhengyang was also wearing shackles, they were far less powerful than his.
This was the first time he had seen the prisoner's face clearly. Usually, when he brought him food and water, the prisoner would lie with his back to the cell door.
The prisoner looked to be around thirty years old. Although he was disheveled, he was still quite handsome. If he were cleaned up, he probably wouldn't be much worse off than Shen Yan.
"Tsk tsk, you're quite timid. Don't be afraid, I have a great opportunity for you. All you have to do is become my disciple. How about it?"
"Not very good!"
"Yes! My good disciple, kneel down..."
「!?」
"You short-sighted, lowly official, do you even know what rank I am as a martial artist? I am a sixth-rank martial artist..."
Unfortunately, Shen Yan had already gone far away and didn't hear him say anything more.
Li Wu was furious. Before his dantian was destroyed, he was already a sixth-grade martial artist. Although his cultivation was ruined, his insight remained sharp.
It was immediately clear that Shen Yan was about to enter the rank of cultivation. Recalling the first time he met Shen Yan, it was obvious that he had just begun his cultivation.
His talent is far superior to everyone else's.
Although he is quite old, he is considered very well-off in this place.
Of course, besides passing on his mantle, he also had some selfish motives in taking Shen Yan as his disciple; he wanted Shen Yan to help him kill someone.
Unexpectedly, Shen Yan turned and left after hearing this, even though she was already prepared to accept his three kowtows and nine bows.
"Bah! You'll be a jailer for life!"
Before Li Wu went to prison, Shen Yan's status was so low that he didn't even have the right to look at him, which is why he always had his back to the prison guards.
Although Shen Yan has only just come of age, he has lived two lives and has a wealth of experience.
There's no such thing as a free lunch, and nothing good comes for no reason. These things all have their price.
Hearing Li Wu's words, he left without looking back.
Although his cultivation progress was indeed relatively fast, it was still within the normal range, which can be explained by the phrase "it is all due to his talent".
Who knows, the Duke's mansion might think highly of him because of his outstanding talent. There are precedents for this, after all, they worship the same ancestor during the Qingming Festival.
If you get involved with Li Wu, it could be a dead end.
Ma Danian is a shrewd man who has remained silent for decades in prison, so Li Wu must have a lot going on behind him.
Back in the office, I noticed someone giving me a strange look.
Shen Yan found it strange, not understanding why they were looking at him like that when he was just going out to patrol the prison cells.
"Some people! Putting aside everything else, they're really good at pretending."
"Yes! They really know how to put on an act for their superiors."
"He was the most responsible person in the entire prison."
This sudden, workplace "green tea" remark caught Shen Yan somewhat off guard.
Looking at the speakers, most of them were prison guards from cell A, and I couldn't help but think to myself.
"Could it be that Hu Youtian has finally lost his temper and is going to make a move against me?"
He then shook his head, dismissing the idea. Hu Youtian had spent so much time in the prison; he wouldn't resort to such low-level tactics against him.
Besides, he was a prison official, while Shen Yan was just a jailer. Many aboveboard methods would be much more effective than this.
Ignoring their words, he walked over to Sun Fugui and quietly asked.
"Brother Sun, what's going on with Da Niu and the others?"
"The clerk just came by and saw them chatting idly in the office. He scolded them and, in the meantime, praised you for your diligence."
"So that's how it is."
After figuring out the cause of the incident, it turned out to be impotent rage; the anger had nowhere to go, so it was directed at him.
He said it without any politeness.
"Idiot!"
His words were blunt and crude, which immediately provoked Da Niu and the others. The four men from cell A rushed up to beat Shen Yan.
They never expected that Shen Yan, who was usually quiet and honest, would retaliate like this, and their anger surged.
Seeing this, the other jailers quickly pulled the men away.
Shen Yan had just mastered the Taizu Long Fist and was eager to test his strength. Seeing them approach, he was not afraid but rather pleased.
"It's a pity we can't play."
Da Niu and the others were held back tightly. Seeing that they couldn't deal with Shen Yan, they glared at him and said something fiercely.
"Shen Yan, you just wait!"
After saying that, he left the office.
Shen Yan gave the three of them the middle finger.
"Idiot!"
Although the three did not understand the meaning of Shen Yan's gesture, they clearly heard what he said.
"Hmph! Just you wait and see."
Sun Fugui praised Shen Yan.
"You've got guts, but you've angered them, so be careful. After your shift, we brothers will go home with you."
"Yeah, Shen Yan and his friends are going together. If they dare to come, we'll beat them up."
The inmates in cell number C all chimed in in agreement.
Shen Yan smiled and did not refuse everyone's kindness.
"Okay, thank you everyone."
The jailers in Prison A, who were used to dealing with high-ranking officials and nobles, considered themselves superior to the jailers in Prisons B and C.
His words were very impolite to them. He had long disliked the people in Prison A, and Shen Yan's counterattack today was a way for them to vent their anger.
After chatting for a short while, Ma Danian called the jailer from cell number C out.
It turned out that the Embroidered Uniform Guard had sent a new batch of prisoners to the Imperial Prison, and Ma Danian had asked everyone to go and hand over the prisoners.
Shen Yan looked at the dozen or so prisoners in front of him, all covered in blood, their white prison uniforms stained red with blood.
They were all lying on the cart, wailing in pain.
As for the original appearance, it was no longer clear. The Jinyiwei men threw the case file to Ma Danian and left without waiting for them to verify the prisoner's identity.
Although it was against the rules, no one dared to speak up and stop it.
Even the jailers in the imperial prison were terrified of the Embroidered Uniform Guard, fearing that they might offend them with their words and be targeted.
They watched as the Imperial Guards departed, their figures disappearing from everyone's sight.
Ma Danian finally uttered a curse.
"Damn it, these black-skinned people always send 'dregs' to the dungeon to die, and they don't even pay for disposing of the bodies."
"Horse, keep your mouth shut, or it'll be terrible if someone hears you."
Upon hearing this, the prison guard in cell number C quickly stopped him from continuing.
Shen Yan was somewhat curious about what "dregs of medicine" meant.
"Brother Sun, what does 'dregs' mean?"
"Those who have been through the imperial prison can't find a single copper coin left in their homes. They're all tortured to the point of near death, barely clinging to life, not even surviving three days. They're all impoverished wretches, what else could they be but dregs of medicine?"
After hearing Sun Fugui's words, Shen Yan couldn't help but admire the skill with which these prison guards named their prisoners. Indeed, as Sun Fugui said, most of the prisoners in front of him were barely breathing, looking like they wouldn't last more than a few days.
Disposing of corpses is the most hated thing for all prison guards, no wonder they curse the Embroidered Uniform Guard.
However, since things have come to this point, the only thing to do is to put these prisoners in jail, which is not something the jailers can control.
