Chapter 21 Shadow Druid
Chapter 21 Shadow Druid
The return of Liu Bei and his party did not cause much of a stir in the forest.
The group silently crossed the sacred pool, where they found Kahar.
Outside the temple, the vines of the Thorn Ritual spread out from beneath the statue in the sacred pool, while inside, the remaining druids gathered to discuss the final fate of the Tiflin.
The arguments inside the temple could be heard even outside the stone gates.
The sound of Liu Bei and his entourage entering the temple interrupted their argument, but they could still tell the two sides from their positions.
Nettie's face turned red, perhaps because he was not good with words and had been teased by Kaha, leaving him speechless and all alone.
Ras stood in the middle, at a loss, and most of the druids present were just as hesitant.
Kaha had no other support by his side, or rather, the druids who truly regarded him as their leader were all presiding over the ceremony at the sacred pool.
She could only win over Ras and the others by arguing with Nettie and appealing to their emotions and reason.
The arrival of Liu Bei and his entourage interrupted their argument.
Upon seeing the visitors, Kaha's words were sharp: "So it's you. Didn't I tell you to go find those Tieflins?"
Liu Bei and Lezer stepped forward together, while Gale, Ansel, and the others took a few steps back and found a suitable position to prepare for casting spells. Shadowheart, Will, and Asdalon, on the other hand, regarded all the druids inside and outside as potential targets for attack and prepared accordingly.
They did not inform Sefullo to assist their operation. This was not a full-scale war between outsiders and druids, and rashly bringing the Tifflins over could lead to an extremely serious strategic miscalculation.
"Kha! Is the thorn ceremony you preside over truly for the protection of the forest?"
Liu Bei did not present the evidence directly; he wanted to see whether the person before him was being deceived or had truly fallen into the abyss.
"Of course! This is a gift from the Father of Trees, protecting us from any harm. When the final prayer is offered, the great vine will rise."
"The woodland will be covered with thorns. No one can come in, and no one can leave. It will become a true refuge."
"But as long as these barbarians continue to corrupt us, this magic will not work. Therefore, Sylvanas asks us to stop them."
Kaha's eyes were resolute; she firmly believed that everything she did was for the safety of the woodland, to prevent it from being invaded by evil.
The letter on the swamp dock that was never delivered to Kahar depicted an ambitious druid, but the Kahar before him was completely different, like an ignorant child who practiced his ideal of protecting the woodland, but went further and further down the wrong path.
"So you chose to let this woodland fall into the hands of the Shadow Druids?"
Upon hearing this, the rats that had been sniffing around Kaha's feet could no longer sit still. Magic flashed, and three shadow druids appeared inside the temple.
"Stop sniffing around our affairs, you damned paladin! You shouldn't be here! Kaha, purify them with fire!"
These shadow druids were none other than Orodan and his group mentioned in the previous note.
The appearance of the Shadow Druids stunned Ras and the others, especially Ras, who never expected that his respected Lady Kaha would fall into the arms of the Shadow Druids: "Khaha, are you crazy?"
"Kha, what are you doing? Have you become weak too? Like Halsin?"
On one side was Orodan's urging, and on the other were his friends' questions. Kaha responded painfully, "Ras, you don't understand! Master Halsin is too weak; he can't solve the forest crisis! Only in darkness can we become stronger and safer! There is no other way!"
At this moment, Kaha was unwilling to fall out with her friends in the woodlands; she craved the approval of Ras and the others!
"You are as soft-hearted as Halsin, leading those devil's children into the woods! In your so-called harmony, you have defiled this sacred woodland!"
Orodan completely disregarded Ras's opinion.
Kahar pleaded, "Lady Orodane is right! Ras, who wants to see the woodland destroyed?"
Upon hearing this, Lars and the others wavered and did not refute the two men's statements.
Orodhan delivered his final verdict: "The contamination can only be cleansed by fire. Begin, Kaha!"
Kaha was about to obey the order when he heard a deep voice chanting.
"Sharp teeth and fangs, roots and thorns, the woodland of the oak god, sworn by the beast."
"The forest rises, its claws sharp, tearing through the darkness, uprooting everything."
"In the darkest hour, harmony prevails; in the wilderness of the harp, darkness is dispelled and demons vanquished."
"The tower was captured, and the strife ceased; the moon rose and dispelled the darkness."
After he finished reciting, he looked quietly at Kaha and asked, "Khaha, are you prepared to face the darkest hour?"
Kaha was about to retort, asking what right a mere outsider had to question her. Originally, out of consideration for someone, she had only intended to completely expel them and restore the woodland to its former peace.
But the next moment she caught a glimpse of a deer-head emblem on Liu Bei's chest.
Is that the emblem of the Emerald Green Garden?
Weren't they said to be adventurers employed by the Swordsmen's Guild?
Why does he wear a badge that is only available to members of the organization?
"Kah! Are you ready to face your darkest hour?"
Liu Bei's voice became loud and resonant, echoing within the temple.
"Damn it, the intelligence is wrong!" Orodan also noticed the deer head badge that Liu Bei had been wearing at some point.
Their little tricks might fool Kahar, and the other druids in the woodlands, but they can't fool these guys from Green Garden.
"Kha, what are you waiting for!"
Orodan dared not make a direct move, for anyone could see that the strongest group in the temple was Kahar and his weak druids!
If she acts rashly, the woodland druids will only see the true nature of the conspiracy, so she must force Kahar to make a decision.
While urging her on, she was also subtly distancing herself from the others, as if she were about to turn into a mouse and slip away through a crack in the wall if things went wrong.
At the same time, as if struck by a thunderbolt, Kaha listlessly muttered the passage that Liu Bei had recited earlier.
That is the history of the Woodlands, the story of how the Druid Masters established the Woodlands from the evil forces and joined hands with the Harpists to fight against Shar's night army.
"Sylvanas taught us to illuminate the darkness, not to hide within it!"
Kaha gradually came to understand everything.
"Khaha! Watch your words! The shadows never forgive!"
Orodan is still threatening!
"I no longer belong to the darkness! Don't even think about controlling me anymore, Ourodan!"
Kaha's eyes were resolute!
Orodan roared in fury: "Mother Earth..."
Before she could even utter a word, the world fell silent.
